Some things to keep in mind...

Welcome! Just joined up or looking at the game? Here's what you need to know.

All of our rules come back to one basic rule:

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Everyone in the DR is here to have a good time-and as long as we remember that, we can be sure to get along.

BASIC RULES

Talk to the Mods

If you have a problem, a question, or a concern, bring it to the moderators. Don't just sit on it and worry-it's what we're here for! Likewise though, be sure to be courteous when it comes to bringing things forward. Don't just send an angry seething PM in all caps if something bugs you! Tell us what your problem is clearly, and politely; we do want to help, and the caps can be...a little scary.

Be good to each other

Remember that golden rule up above? That's what this is. This is a collaborative hobby, and it's a fandom to a series based in friendship and cooperation. Respect the boundaries of others! Ask people before you spring anything too intense, like violence or trauma, on their characters. Most importantly, IC doesn't mean OOC; sometimes characters fight, but the players aren't their characters! It's always good to remember this.

Do your Homework!

Read up on things before you hop in! If you have something you need to know, there's a good chance that it has an answer somewhere-not to mention, there's the rules, details of how to tag posts, and so on, so on...and if you CAN'T find what you're looking for, you can always ask a question.

No Godmodding, no Metagaming

Godmodding is forcing another person's character into a specific course of action. Metagaming is when your character has knowledge that they ICly just shouldn't. Both of these can cause lots of trouble for everyone involved, so it's best not to do this!

With godmodding, not everyone agrees on where the line sits; for some it's when your character is outright forcing them into another direction. For others it's when your character simply asks if they can do something! If someone seems to be godmodding, try to sort things out with the other player before bringing it to the mods-sometimes, a player might not even realize they were doing something wrong, and it's best to smooth things over peacefully rather than assume something was deliberate.

Likewise, meta can have a fuzzy line as well. Sometimes characters really ARE that knowledgeable, but other times, mindreading could be involved-and that's not something just anyone would deal with. Similarly, this is a fandom where numerous series are connected in a single timeline-what one muse assumes to be metagaming could well just be common knowledge to the other. Once again, try to work things out between players if you're unsure, before bringing it to the mods. No one wants to have an argument and discussion when it turns out that it was a simple misunderstanding.

For both of the above, it may be a good idea to create a Permissions Post to help tell others where you stand on such things.

Don't Bully or Harass others

Just. Don't. This is a rule that encompasses just about anything on the site-from pestering others for tags, to outright sending threats, these are serious matters, and there will be no excuse for breaking this or not reading these rules. If someone is threatening your safety, bring it to the mods IMMEDIATELY. Unlike the above, harassment is a serious and deliberate matter, and one that can occasionally bleed into real life. The mods may not be thought police, but if things escalate to such a point, we will do what we can to get law enforcement involved.

SPECIFICS

Adult Content

Before all else, if you thing what you're dealing with in a thread may involve a triggering subject, make sure to mark it with a warning and hide the post under a 'cut text'. The DR is here to make other players feel welcome-coming in and seeing a bloodbath post isn't always going to do that.

When it comes to sex, the age of consent in the YGO-DR is 16. If your character or their partner(s) are 15 or younger, anything that moves into sexual touch and beyond (or masturbation) MUST be moved off the community.

If you intend to have adult content in your post, this as well should be marked with a specific warning, for the sake of others.

Violence is a more flexible topic, but if a scene becomes graphic, it should be hidden under cut-text. In the event that serious injury or death may be involved, always ask the players involved if they're willing to go through with things.

Fortunately, death is not permanent at the DR. Those who die will revive in the 'Graveyard', a relatively spooky area they can access the rest of the DR from. They may experience, if players choose, a missed amount of time, or even illness however as a result.

Once again, for many of the above topics, creating a Permissions Post can easily help other players to know where you stand on things!

BROKEN RULES

In the event of rule breaking, this is what will happen:

1. Mods will discuss it with each other.
2. Mods will discuss it with any and all parties involved via IM, Skype, private plurk chat, or similar.
3. In the case of serious player disputes, players will be asked to talk it out in mediated chat.
4. Mods and/or players will come to an agreement on a course of action.

Consequences are: first warning, second warning, probation, tempban, permaban. Don't make us do this to you! Modhammers don't make anybody happy, including the mods.

If you have further questions, be sure to take a look at the FAQ page, to see if your question has already been answered. Otherwise, you can either ask a question there, or contact the moderators.
